Greek products are making a splash in Canada.

Since the implementation of a major trade agreement between the EU and Canada (called CETA), Greek exports have soared, making Greece the sixth-fastest growing exporter to Canada among all EU countries.

This good news was highlighted at a recent seminar held at the Canadian Embassy in Athens, where experts discussed the benefits of the agreement, especially for traditional Greek products like feta cheese and olive oil.

These products have special protected status, meaning they can only be called "feta" or "Kalamata olives" if they come from specific regions in Greece and meet strict quality standards.

However, there are still some challenges.

One sticking point is the use of the name "feta" in Canada, where some locally-made cheeses are also sold under that name. This is a concern for Greek producers who want to protect the authenticity of their feta cheese.

Despite this, the future looks bright for Greek exporters. The Panhellenic Exporters Association is working closely with the European Commission to help Greek businesses navigate the Canadian market and take full advantage of the opportunities created by the trade deal.
