A collision occurred on Thursday morning between a Greek Coast Guard vessel and a Turkish fishing boat operating in Greek territorial waters northeast of the Zourafa islet, off the coast of Samothrace.
The incident followed recent talks between Greek and Turkish leaders to maintain peace in the Aegean.
According to the Greek Coast Guard, the Turkish vessel made a sudden course change while approached for inspection, resulting in the collision. The Turkish vessel then left for Turkish waters, while the Greek vessel sustained minor damage.
The Turkish Coast Guard disputed the Greek account, claiming Zourafa is under Turkish jurisdiction and that the Greek vessel caused the collision before fleeing. They also reported minor injuries to the Turkish crew.
An investigation is underway by the Samothrace Port Authority, with no reports of injuries or pollution.
