Passenger traffic at Greek airports experienced a notable 6.1% increase in the first two months of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, signaling a strong start for the country's aviation sector, according to data released by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA).

From January to February 2025, a total of 5.32 million passengers passed through Greece's 39 airports, up from 5.02 million during the same period in 2024. This increase indicates a continued recovery and growth trend following previous disruptions.

In addition to the rise in passenger numbers, aircraft movements, which include both domestic and international arrivals and departures, also saw a 3.2% increase. A total of 46,900 flights were recorded in early 2025, compared to 45,464 in the same period of 2024.

The 24 airports managed directly by the HCAA, including those in key destinations such as Heraklion, Kalamata, and Alexandroupoli, demonstrated particularly strong performance. These airports collectively experienced a significant 14.3% surge in passenger traffic, serving 426,755 passengers compared to 373,518 in the previous year.

Among these airports, Heraklion's "Nikos Kazantzakis" Airport stood out with the most substantial growth, recording a 30% increase in passenger numbers in February alone. The airport served 125,133 passengers in February 2025, up from 96,267 in February 2024. Other airports, such as Chios Airport and Kasos Airport, also reported increases in passenger traffic, with 12.2% and 6.5% respectively.

These figures suggest a robust recovery and positive momentum for Greece's aviation sector, indicating a potential for continued growth throughout 2025.
