Greece welcomed the UN Security Council's unanimous vote to extend the mandate of the UN peacekeeping force in Cyprus for another year.
The Foreign Ministry said the resolution sends a strong message of support for the UN chief's efforts to restart talks aimed at resolving the Cyprus issue. Greece reiterated its commitment to a solution based on a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation with political equality, as outlined in UN resolutions.
Greece, working with the Republic of Cyprus, was actively involved in discussions leading up to the mandate renewal.4 Athens, which will be a Security Council member in 2025-2026, stressed the peacekeeping mission's importance in reducing tensions and maintaining stability on the island.5
The ministry said resolving the Cyprus issue remains a top priority for Greek foreign policy and pledged to work constructively toward a fair and lasting solution within the framework of UN resolutions.
