Greece's migration minister pressed for greater European Union coordination on returning migrants and strengthening border security during informal EU migration and home affairs talks in Warsaw on Monday.
Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos expressed satisfaction that most EU members now share Greece's view of border protection and migration as security concerns.
He stressed the importance of speeding up the return process for rejected asylum seekers, saying, "Greece will support the necessary reforms to optimize and expedite returns."
Panagiotopoulos cautioned that the EU's lack of coordinated action is seen by other countries as a weakness.
He urged his counterparts to boost joint efforts on migration management and security preparedness.
He also held trilateral discussions with officials from Ireland and Lithuania, and separate bilateral meetings with ministers from the Netherlands, Denmark, and Bulgaria during the Warsaw meeting.
