Turkish President Recep Tayip Erdogan announced that a meeting of the Greece-Turkey High-Level Cooperation Council could take place in early 2025.

Speaking to reporters after Friday prayers in Istanbul, Mr. Erdogan mentioned that he and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis discussed the “known difficulties in the Aegean Sea” during their recent meeting at the UN General Assembly in New York.

Mr. Mitsotakis assured Mr. Erdogan that he would address these issues and work towards resolving them.

The High-Level Cooperation Council aims to tackle various aspects of Greek-Turkish relations and establish a solid foundation for bilateral cooperation.

The council has convened five times so far, with the most recent meeting held last year in Greece. Additionally, Mr. Erdogan expressed Turkey’s aspiration to become a permanent member of the UN Security Council.
