A sudden cold snap has gripped Greece, bringing snowfall, strong winds, and a sharp drop in temperatures across the country.
Snow fell on Mount Parnitha late Tuesday, prompting authorities to close roads. Snow also affected parts of Central Greece and the northeastern Peloponnese.
Heavy rain hit eastern Central Greece, the eastern Peloponnese, and southern islands. Strong winds, reaching 10-11 on the Beaufort scale, disrupted the Aegean region.
Temperatures plummeted to -6°C in mountainous regions.
The cold spell is expected to ease by Wednesday, with precipitation limited to Crete.
Warmer weather is forecast from Thursday through Saturday, with temperatures gradually rising. Milder conditions are expected by Sunday.
Meteorologist Sakis Arnaoutoglou said no further cold air masses are expected this month.
