In a historic move, Greece is poised to send its first-ever scientific expedition to Antarctica.
The Greek scientists will join a Bulgarian research team aboard the vessel Saints Cyril and Methodius.
Simeon Konstantinidis, President of the Hellenic Polar Society, announced the exciting news, expressing gratitude to Bulgaria for the opportunity.
The Greek scientists, including a professor from the University of Athens and one from the Technical University of Crete, will conduct a variety of research projects, from astrophysics to psychology.
The expedition aims to pave the way for Greece's future involvement in Antarctic research, with the goal of establishing a meteorological station and possibly even a permanent base. The Hellenic Polar Society is also keen on fostering collaboration with other Balkan countries and European nations in this field.
