In a significant move to bolster bilateral ties, Greece and Qatar have signed two new agreements, marking a milestone in their strategic partnership. The signing took place during a high-profile meeting between Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, at the Maximos Mansion.
Prime Minister Mitsotakis underscored Greece’s developmental strides and engaged in discussions on regional issues, particularly those affecting the Middle East.
The Qatari Emir, on his inaugural official visit to Greece, expressed optimism about the potential for enhanced economic and investment relations between the two nations.
The leaders’ dialogue at the outset of their meeting highlighted a shared commitment to economic collaboration. Mr. Mitsotakis warmly welcomed the Emir, saying hi visit presented “a prime opportunity” to fortify economic ties with Qatar.
Sheikh Tamim expressed gratitude for the invitation and anticipation for the talks, emphasising the historical bonds and the prospects for strengthening economic and investment relations. He also noted the importance of discussing regional issues, with a particular focus on the situation in Gaza.
The agreements — a Military Cooperation Agreement and a Memorandum of Understanding for political consultations — are seen as a testament to the deepening relationship between Greece and Qatar, with an emphasis on economic cooperation and investment opportunities.
