Greece has offered to provide humanitarian aid to both Gaza and Lebanon, stepping in after US efforts to establish a supply route to Gaza were hampered by severe weather.
Defense Minister Nikos Dendias announced that four navy ships have been placed on alert to deliver essential aid, including water, food, and medication, if requested.
"This is our region," Mr. Dendias said. "We have offered to contribute to humanitarian aid efforts both in Gaza and Lebanon. We want to create a stable future with the goal of prosperity."
The need for humanitarian assistance is critical in the wake of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, as thousands of displaced Palestinians return to devastated homes in northern Gaza.
The US military had been working to build an artificial dock in the eastern Mediterranean to facilitate aid delivery, but those efforts have been halted due to challenging weather conditions.
Mr. Dendias emphasized Greece's readiness to assist, stating, "We have limited resources, but we are present." The offer of aid reflects Greece's commitment to regional stability and humanitarian support in the Middle East.
In other news, the Greek Armed Forces have undergone a restructuring, with reductions in officer ranks across various branches.
The number of Brigadiers in the Army has decreased by 36, Navy Captains by 5, and Air Force Brigadiers by 7. The number of Colonels has seen a significant reduction of 369.
