The Greek government has issued a strong condemnation of Iran’s missile strikes on Israel, describing the attack as a "dangerous escalation" that risks further destabilizing an already volatile region.

In a statement released following an emergency meeting of the National Security Council (KYSEA), Greece expressed unwavering solidarity with Israel and reaffirmed the right of the Israeli people to live in peace and security.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis chaired the KYSEA meeting, where the council analyzed the rapidly evolving situation in the Middle East.

The ongoing conflict, which has seen violent exchanges between Israel and Iranian-backed groups, poses a serious threat to regional stability, sparking concern across Europe. Greece called for an immediate de-escalation of hostilities, warning that prolonged violence could have far-reaching consequences beyond the Middle East.

The Greek government also announced heightened security measures within its borders, intensifying surveillance and coordination with neighboring nations to safeguard against potential spillover effects from the conflict.

Greek authorities have increased checks at ports and airports and strengthened cooperation with international partners to ensure the safety of citizens, both at home and abroad.

In response to escalating violence in Lebanon, where tensions have also flared, Greece has activated a contingency plan to evacuate Greek nationals if the security situation deteriorates further.

With ongoing clashes between Hezbollah and Israeli forces raising fears of a broader regional war, the Greek Foreign Ministry is closely monitoring developments and coordinating with its embassies in the region to ensure the well-being of Greek citizens.

Mr.Mitsotakis emphasized Greece’s role as a stabilizing force in the Eastern Mediterranean, reiterating the country’s commitment to peace and diplomacy.

"Greece stands firmly for the peaceful resolution of conflicts, and we urge all parties to return to the path of dialogue. Continued escalation will only lead to greater suffering and insecurity for all people in the region," Mr. Mitsotakis said.

The unfolding crisis in the Middle East adds to a growing list of foreign policy challenges for Greece, which is also navigating complex geopolitical dynamics in its own neighborhood.

As tensions flare in the broader Mediterranean, Greece has strengthened its alliances with Israel, Cyprus, and Egypt in recent years, forging regional partnerships to bolster security and cooperation on issues ranging from energy to defense.

As the situation continues to develop, Greece remains vigilant, calling for calm and diplomatic engagement while preparing for any potential risks to its citizens and broader regional security.
