Greece's Minister of Citizen Protection Michalis Chrisochoidis has hailed Evros and Greece as a "oasis of stability" amidst regional turmoil, highlighting the government's successful efforts to enhance security and border protection.

During his visit to Alexandroupolis, Mr. Chrisochoidis emphasized the significant improvements in Evros' security, attributing them to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis' initiatives, including the construction of a border fence, increased personnel, advanced technology, and the dedicated efforts of the Armed Forces and the Hellenic Police.

The measures have transformed the Evros border and ensured its security despite external pressures.

The minister announced the deployment of 150 new border guards in the region, further strengthening the secondary line of migration control. This addition brings the total number of border guards hired since the 2020 Evros crisis to over 1,000 across Thrace and Eastern Macedonia.

Mr. Chrisochoidis also addressed the issue of domestic violence, noting a significant increase in reported cases in the region.

He praised the police's effective response and attributed the rise in reports to increased trust in law enforcement. Safe houses and specialized domestic violence units have been established across all prefectures of Thrace to support victims.

The minister reported a decrease in juvenile violence incidents and an increase in arrests of guardians responsible for minors. He stressed the importance of holding abusers accountable and ensuring no leniency for those who commit violence within families.
