Greece and Saudi Arabia are deepening their energy partnership, with a focus on creating a "green energy corridor" linking Saudi Arabia with Europe via Greece.
Greek Environment and Energy Minister Theodoros Skylakakis met with Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud in Riyadh this week, marking the first official visit by a Greek energy minister to Saudi Arabia in over two decades.
The meeting built on recent high-level discussions between the two countries, including Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis's trip to Saudi Arabia earlier this month.
Mr. Skylakakis and Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman affirmed their commitment to developing the green energy corridor, which will facilitate the exchange of renewable energy between Saudi Arabia and Europe. They also agreed to explore the possibility of establishing a hydrogen corridor alongside the electricity interconnection.
"This partnership represents a significant step towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy future," said Mr. Skylakakis.
During his visit, Mr. Skylakakis toured Saudi Arabia's national electricity and grid company facilities and discussed collaboration on renewable energy projects.
He also presented Greece's carbon capture and storage strategy, exploring potential synergies with Saudi Arabia's expertise in this area.
To further strengthen energy cooperation, the ministers agreed to organize a Greek business delegation to Saudi Arabia in the near future.
This initiative underscores the growing strategic partnership between the two countries in the energy sector.
