The draft resolution, prepared by Ukraine along with EU countries for the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, was adopted by the UN General Assembly with 93 votes in favour, 18 against, and 65 abstentions.

The US draft resolution was also adopted by the General Assembly but with the additions proposed by the French on behalf of the EU countries showing the political will of the majority of UN member states.

Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis, in his speech to the UN General Assembly, emphasised Greece's commitment to international law and the UN Charter. Referring to the third anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, he stressed that Greece "unequivocally condemns any violation by military means of international peace and security.".

Gerapetritis noted that since the beginning of the war, Greece has consistently supported all previous calls for an end to the war in Ukraine. He stressed that the country has welcomed refugees and worked to promote relevant UN resolutions.

He also called for an end to hostilities and added that peace must be a comprehensive and lasting solution through diplomacy, without exclusion. At the same time, he stressed that "war must stop" and that Ukraine is not just a regional issue but concerns global security.
