Greek authorities have made a fourth arrest in connection with the explosion at an apartment in the Ampelokipoi district of Athens, adding a new layer to an already complex investigation.
The latest suspect, a 31-year-old man linked to anarchist circles, was apprehended outside his residence after investigators found his fingerprint on a bag containing a weapon recovered from the scene.
Authorities are now exploring the suspect’s connection to the 36-year-old man who died when the bomb detonated in the apartment on Arkadiou Street.
The suspect, known to law enforcement, has a significant criminal history, including an 18-year prison sentence in 2012 for possessing and placing explosive devices.
He also served 11 years for related offenses before being released under restrictive conditions in 2019. Although previously linked to the "Conspiracy of Cells of Fire" organization, he was not convicted in that case.
Investigators are determining whether he supplied the weapons or played a more active role in the group that rented the apartment.
Three other individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident, including a 30-year-old woman who held the keys to the apartment and recently returned to Athens from Bern via Berlin. Both she and a 33-year-old woman injured in the blast are in custody after judicial proceedings.
The charges against the suspects include membership in a terrorist organization, manufacturing and possessing explosive materials, and using such materials for acts of terrorism.
Prosecutors allege the group possessed a substantial amount of explosive materials for unlawful purposes, intensifying concerns about the scope of their activities.
The investigation continues as authorities examine evidence to uncover potential links between the suspects and any broader networks.
The case has prompted heightened scrutiny of organized anarchist groups in Greece.
