Ten members of the former Greek royal family have been granted Greek citizenship, according to an announcement in the Government Gazette.
The decision, made by Interior Minister Theodoros Livanios, follows a formal request by the family and their acceptance of Greece's republican constitution.
The reinstated citizens include the five children of the late King Constantine and the five children of his eldest son, Pavlos.
They will now be able to register in the Citizen Registry and obtain Greek identification cards and passports.
This move marks a significant step in formally restoring their legal ties to Greece after decades of exile. The family was stripped of their Greek citizenship in 1994 following a dispute with the government over property and their refusal to renounce claims to the throne.
The decision to grant them citizenship reflects a move towards reconciliation and closure on a contentious chapter in Greek history.
It allows the former royal family to fully re-engage with their ancestral homeland as private citizens, while acknowledging and respecting Greece's republican system of government.
