Firefighting efforts continue in the wildfire that broke out Sunday morning in a forested area of Xylokastro, Corinth, where two people lost their lives.
According to the Fire Service, crews faced multiple flare-ups on Monday, some of which turned into full-blown fires. Civil Protection sources stated that the situation is stable and most flare-ups have been contained.
A total of 390 firefighters, including 16 forest commando teams and 115 vehicles, are involved in the operation. Volunteers, Civil Protection groups, water tankers and machinery from the Peloponnese Region and the Hellenic National Defence General Staff are also assisting.
Additionally, forces from the Forestry Service, Hellenic Police and 24 aerial units - 12 planes and 12 helicopters - are fighting the blaze.
Two firefighters have been injured: one with mild respiratory issues and another who sustained an eye injury from a water blast.
Emergency messages via 112 have been sent to residents of nearby settlements due to the ongoing fire.
It is also noted that two bodies have been found. Identification is underway to determine whether they belong to two men, aged 35 and 40, who have been missing since Sunday night in the wider Corinth region.
