The Fire Brigade is on high alert as a very high risk of wildfires (Category 4) is anticipated for several regions across Greece on Tuesday, August 6th.
Areas under threat include Attica, Evia, Boeotia, Argolis, parts of Phthiotis and Corinthia, Heraklion and Lasithi in Crete, the Dodecanese Islands, Samos, Ikaria, Chios, Psara, and Lesvos.
The General Secretariat for Civil Protection has issued a warning, urging relevant authorities and citizens to be prepared and take precautions. It is advised to avoid activities that could potentially ignite fires, such as burning dry vegetation, using machinery that generates sparks, outdoor grilling, smoking out bees, and carelessly discarding cigarettes. Burning fields is strictly prohibited during the fire season.
Citizens are encouraged to report any fires immediately to the Fire Service by calling 199.
