Greece’s Minister for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Vasilis Kikilias has warned the need for caution as extreme fire conditions loom over the country.
With half of Greece facing a high risk of forest fires this weekend, Mr. Kikilias said citizens had to remain “vigilant.”
He said on Friday:“As of tonight and continuing through Saturday and Sunday, approximately half of the country will be at the orange level—a critical risk—due to gale-force winds ranging from 7 to 9 Beaufort.”
The Minister assured that the entire state apparatus was on high alert, but he called on Greeks to play their part in preventing fires from being sparked.
“We must all cooperate by following authorities’ instructions and promptly reporting any fires to emergency services at 199 or 112.”
As Greece faces this weather challenge, collective efforts are crucial to mitigate the risk and protect lives and property.
Citizens are urged to stay informed and take necessary precautions during this critical period.
