Opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance leader Sokratis Famellos, who is touring western Thessaly on Friday, underlined in a press conference in the city of Trikala that "the political campaign of SYRIZA is implemented throughout Greece, in the context of restarting our party, so that as a serious and well-ordered party we are present in the face of society's needs and problems, not only as a reliable and dynamic opposition, but also as a political force that has a proposal for the next day of the country".
Famellos then emphasised that there had been a plan for SYRIZA not to exist, adding: "The answer we are giving here in Trikala and all over Greece is that SYRIZA not only exists but is getting better and stronger every day, and this is first of all expressed by stability and seriousness in our operation."
He said that planned, smart and sustainable growth was needed, which the current government was unable to support. These solutions, he added, constituted real democracy and real rapprochement with Europe, while adding that Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and his government "are taking us further away from the European acquis."
Asked about the election of the new President of the Hellenic Republic, Famellos underlined, among others: "SYRIZA has chosen to adopt a very serious position regarding the issue of the election with respect to the institution that should serve the rule of law, the Constitution and the democratic operation of the country.We did not enter, he explained, into a discussion of names that could affect both the institution and the possible nominations.
Furthermore, responding to a question about the members who left the party and whether there will be initiatives for their return, Famellos emphasised that the Central Committee has already publicly formulated an invitation, I would say an exhortation, for the strengthening of SYRIZA and return of members who disagreed, who moved away for various reasons. The invitation is open without conditions and without exchanges, it is an honest, democratic and progressive invitation, he stressed.
