A botched explosion in an Athens apartment has led to the unraveling of a suspected terrorist plot with links to a previous attack on Greek police.

Authorities believe the apartment was being used to prepare an explosive device intended for a late Thursday night attack.

The investigation centers around a 31-year-old woman who is now wanted by police. She allegedly left detailed instructions with her 31-year-old partner before departing for Switzerland, instructing him to give a key to the apartment to an associate's mother.

The exchange, along with her departure, is believed to be an attempt to create an alibi.

The explosion killed a 36-year-old man who is suspected of assembling the bomb. While the intended target remains unclear, police are investigating whether it was meant for an Athens police station, potentially linked to a failed attack on police headquarters last year.

Counter-terrorism raids on three apartments in Athens have yielded a significant amount of digital evidence, including laptops, tablets, and mobile phones. Investigators hope this material will provide crucial information about the suspects' plans and potential connections to other terrorist activities.

In addition to explosives, police found two firearms in the apartment, but forensic analysis confirmed they were not used in any prior crimes.

The main suspect, her injured 33-year-old accomplice, and the detained 31-year-old man are facing multiple charges, including participation in a terrorist organization, manufacturing and possession of explosives, and attempted bombing. Arrest warrants have been issued for both female suspects.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to uncover the extent of the terrorist network and prevent further attacks.
