The weather phenomena of heavy rain, snowfall, and gale-force winds will gradually become weaker through Tuesday night, but icy conditions will continue through Friday (Jan. 17) in central and northern Greece, particularly in the northwest.
According to an update of the National Meteorological Service severe weather report, several regions of Greece will continue to experience heavy rain on Tuesday: the south Ionian Sea, the Peloponnese, the Cyclades, the North and East Aegean Islands (especially after noon), and the Dodecanese Islands. Occasional thunderstorms are also expected in the southern seas and at coastal areas.
Snowfall will continue in Epirus, Macedonia, and Thrace both at mountains and further down, but will gradually thin out by evening.
Thessaly, Central Greece, and the Peloponnese however will see heavy snowfall, not just at higher elevations but further down. Snowfall will gradually become thinner by night.
The Aegean Sea will face gale-force winds reaching 8 and 9 on the Beaufort scale. The Ionian Sea will have similar conditions, between 7 and 8 on the Beaufort scale. Wind velocity will drop as of the afternoon.
