Irish Finance Minister and Eurogroup President Paschal Donohoe expressed strong confidence in Greece’s economic outlook during a recent visit to Athens, praising both the country's progress and its new economic leadership.
In a meeting with Greek Minister of National Economy and Finance Kyriakos Pierrakakis, Donohoe voiced his trust in Greece’s economic prospects and the competence of its current political leadership. "Allow me to congratulate you on a very, very successful start as Minister of Economy and Finance," Donohoe said to Pierrakakis.
"I am now convinced that the remarkable progress made by the Greek people and the Greek economy in recent years will continue under your leadership."
The Eurogroup president emphasized the significance of 2025 for Greek-Irish relations, as the two nations mark 50 years of diplomatic ties. “It is great to be here to renew our joint work,” he added, highlighting the symbolic and practical importance of his visit.
Minister Pierrakakis thanked Donohoe for his visit and warm words, emphasizing Greece’s commitment to sustaining and enhancing the country’s economic momentum.
“It’s great to have you here, and we look forward to discussing and presenting our work, hoping to make your observation on our progress even more pronounced,” he said.
The meeting reflected a shared vision for continued economic cooperation, as well as mutual recognition of the positive developments in Greece’s fiscal and financial landscape.
