Christos Hadjichristodoulou, President of Greece's National Public Health Organization (EODY), has warned of the potential arrival of imported Mpox cases in Greece, particularly from regions like the Democratic Republic of Congo, currently experiencing outbreaks.
He emphasized the long incubation period of the virus, which could lead to travelers unknowingly bringing the virus back to Greece. Vaccination for high-risk groups and continued monitoring are crucial to prevent the spread of Mpox, he stressed.
In addition to Mpox, Mr. Hadjichristodoulou addressed the rising concerns about invasive streptococcus infections in Europe.
He noted that recent cases in Ilia are under investigation, with no common risk factor identified yet. He urged individuals experiencing symptoms such as fever, pharyngitis, or cellulitis to seek medical attention promptly.
He also recommended that only healthcare professionals administer strep tests to ensure accurate results.
