A decrease in energy prices at the stock exchange has raised hopes for stabilized or even reduced electricity bills in October.
The new tariffs will be announced on Tuesday, October 1st, once the average September price at the Energy Exchange is finalized.
The average price for September has already dropped to €116.94 per megawatt-hour, down from €129.83 in August. Combined with lower consumption during the month, this could lead to a positive impact on consumer bills.
While prices have fallen, they remain higher than usual for this time of year due to factors such as disruptions in cross-border trade and the ongoing war in Ukraine. However, the Greek government has intervened to keep retail electricity costs below 15 cents per kilowatt-hour for most households.
As wholesale prices continue to decline, subsidies may be phased out. Additionally, efforts are underway to create a permanent European mechanism to address energy price fluctuations in the future.
