Toll workers at the Aggelokastro station on the Ionia Odos highway experienced a truly unusual encounter early Monday morning when a driver returned with an unexpected explanation for his U-turn.
According to Synidisi.gr, a driver from Albania, en route to Athens, stopped at the toll station around 2 a.m., paid his fee, and continued his journey. About 30 minutes later, he returned, sheepishly explaining to the astonished toll workers that he had forgotten something – or rather, someone – important: his wife.
The man recounted that he had briefly stopped along the way, and his wife, who had been sleeping, had exited the car. Distracted, he then resumed driving, completely unaware that she was no longer in the vehicle.
It wasn't until he neared the Rio-Antirrio Bridge that he realized his wife was missing. He immediately turned around and drove back to the rest stop where he had last seen her.
The driver's quick thinking and return ensured a happy reunion, but his story left toll workers amused and likely shaking their heads in disbelief.
