A 44-year-old driver has been sentenced to two years in prison, convertible to a fine of €10 per day, for a violent altercation with a taxi driver in Thessaloniki.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday in the Kordelio area, involved a road rage dispute that escalated into a physical confrontation.
The Thessaloniki Single-Member Misdemeanor Court found the 44-year-old guilty of dangerous bodily harm, verbal abuse, and threats.
The taxi driver, a 33-year-old, was acquitted of all charges due to a procedural issue with filing fees.
According to witness testimony, the altercation began when the 44-year-old attacked the taxi driver while he was still seated in his vehicle.
The defendant claimed the taxi driver had cut him off in traffic, causing his young daughter to be startled and lightly injured. He alleged that the taxi driver then attempted to damage his car, leading to a physical altercation.
The taxi driver, however, described the defendant as the aggressor, claiming he was repeatedly struck while still in his taxi. He testified that he feared for his safety and called for help over his radio.
The prosecutor recommended the conviction of the 44-year-old and the acquittal of the taxi driver, a position upheld by the court.
