The two-day Meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs in Brussels (Dec. 3-4), which Greek Foreign Affairs Minister George Gerapetritis is attending, is expected to discuss the immediate reinforcement of help to Ukraine through air defense systems.
According to Greek high-level diplomatic sources, FM Gerapetritis is expected to meet with his Ukrainian counterpart Andrii Sybiha on Tuesday, in the framework of the Meeting. Greece's stance on Ukraine is consistent: any form of revisionism is against Greece's interests and rationale, the diplomatic sources underlined.
Also in the context of the Meeting, Gerapetritis is expected to have a brief private meeting with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan. As diplomatic sources said, there is no scheduled appointment, but it is likely the two men will meet to discuss mostly the preparations for the High-Level Cooperation Council, which is expected to take place at the end of January or beginning of February, depending on the schedules of the Greek and Turkish leaders.
Furthermore, on Wednesday Gerapetritis and Fidan will be attending the Malta meeting of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). According to diplomatic sources, Greece and Türkiye have applied for membership in two of four basic OECD roles. Türkiye is proposing Feridun Sinirlioglu as OECD Secretary-General, and Greece is proposing Maria Telanian, former Foreign Ministry and Maximos Mansion legal counsel on international law, as head of rights and rule of law. Their election requires unanimous approval by all 56 OECD member states, including Russia. Diplomatic sources underlined that a successful Greek candidacy will be significant, given that OECD will pay a key role following a ceasefire in Ukraine, particularly in terms of the security aspect.
