Dimitris Papastergiou, Greece's Minister of Digital Governance, outlined a series of ambitious initiatives aimed at improving public safety, enhancing online security, and streamlining public services.
In a recent television interview, Mr. Papastergiou discussed plans to install public safety cameras, regulate the use of public spaces, improve the land registry, introduce a parental control tool, create a unified personal identification number, and strengthen cybersecurity measures.
Mr. Papastergiou emphasized that the planned camera network will prioritize saving lives by increasing surveillance in areas where a constant police presence is not feasible.
He also announced the development of a new app to regulate the use of public spaces, ensuring accessibility for all citizens.
Addressing concerns about the land registry, Papastergiou reassured property owners that those with legitimate documentation have no reason to worry.
He also highlighted the upcoming launch of "Kids Wallet," a parental control tool designed to verify children's ages on digital platforms and promote online safety.
To address inefficiencies in Greece's fragmented identification system, Papastergiou announced plans to introduce a unified personal identification number. This will streamline administrative processes and simplify everyday transactions for citizens.
On cybersecurity, Papastergiou stressed the importance of public awareness and announced plans to centralize state communication through a secure platform to reduce fraud risks.
He praised the public's willingness to embrace digital solutions, citing the success of the electronic ticketing system for stadiums.
"Greeks are eager to adopt new, simpler digital solutions," he said, emphasizing the government's commitment to enhancing digital services and improving citizens' lives.
