The second Delphi Forum in Paris brought together prominent speakers to discuss ways to harness the potential of the Greek diaspora, emphasizing the importance of global Greek communities in fostering international collaboration.
“It is essential to identify Greeks abroad who have excelled in various fields,” said Maira Myrogianni, Secretary General for Greeks Abroad and Public Diplomacy.
She highlighted the need for a comprehensive action plan to connect diaspora communities, stating, “The diaspora is diverse, with varying structures and needs.
Our goal is to link these communities through a registry of organizations and individuals.”
Marietta Karamanli, a French MP of Greek origin and chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, stressed the importance of understanding the contributions of the Greek diaspora. She noted her efforts in the French Parliament to promote greater cooperation, particularly in key economic sectors such as energy and transportation.
She also highlighted the Greek-French Chamber of Commerce as a model for fostering collaboration.
Sevi Anastasiou Voloudaki, an MP with New Democracy and chair of the Greece-France Friendship Group, underlined the growing strength of Greek-French relations, particularly in defense, citing partnerships on Belharra frigates and Rafale fighter jets.
She emphasized the role of parliamentary friendship groups in advancing cooperation with actionable proposals, including educational initiatives.
Voloudaki also pointed to the new opportunities created by Greece’s recent law on private universities. “Many French universities, including some of the top institutions, have expressed interest in establishing branches in Greece. This is a promising path for collaboration,” she said.
The forum, organized by the Delphi Economic Forum and Greek newspapers To Vima and Ta Nea, was held under the auspices of Greece’s Permanent Delegation to the OECD and the General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad and Public Diplomacy of the Foreign Ministry.
