There were 127,146 deaths (64,814 men and 62,332 women) from all causes, including the pandemic, in the first 47 weeks of 2021 (January 4 until November 28).
In comparison with the average number of deaths during the same period in the previous five years (2015-2020), there was an increase of 15.38 pct. The equivalent figure in previous years was 2.29 pct in 2020, 4.41 pct in 2019, -4.12 pct in 2018, 6.57 pct in 2017 and -3.67 pct in 2015.
The highest number of deaths were in the 26th, 31st and 18th weeks of the year, while the lowest were in the 5th, 2nd and 6th weeks. The increase in deaths was highest in the 90-plus age group, in those aged 85-59, 75-79 and 70-74. By area, the increase in deaths was highest in Attica, Central Macedonia and Thessaly, while there was a reduction in the North Aegean.
