The death toll from Friday's tragic migrant shipwreck off the coast of Gavdos island has risen to seven, with the recovery of two more bodies on Monday.
The Greek Coast Guard continues to search for more than 30 people still missing after the vessel carrying 82 Pakistani nationals capsized in rough seas.
The bodies were found in rocky areas northwest of Gavdos, one at Agios Ioannis beach and the other on a nearby small beach. The Coast Guard retrieved the remains, and search efforts are ongoing.
The shipwreck occurred Friday night, 12.5 nautical miles south of Gavdos.
Five bodies were recovered earlier, and 39 survivors were rescued, with one remaining in critical condition at a hospital in Hania, Crete. Authorities have identified a suspected human trafficker among the victims.
Tragically, this was not the only incident in the region that night. Four other shipwrecks occurred, resulting in the rescue of over 200 migrants.
