A very high risk of wildfires is predicted for several areas in Crete, the Northern Aegean, and the Southern Aegean today, according to officials.
The specific regions include Heraklion and Lasithi in Crete, Samos and Ikaria in the Northern Aegean, and Kalymnos, Kos, Rhodes, and Karpathos in the Southern Aegean.
The General Secretariat for Civil Protection has issued a warning and all relevant authorities are on high alert.
Citizens are advised to be extremely cautious and avoid any activities that could potentially start a fire. This includes burning dry vegetation, using machinery that produces sparks, outdoor grilling, and smoking.
The Civil Protection's wildfire response plan is in effect, with increased aerial and ground patrols.
Fire service personnel are on standby and vehicle movement and visitor access are restricted in vulnerable areas. Citizens are urged to stay informed through official channels and to report any fires immediately by calling 199.
