A recent report from the Hellenic Police (ELAS) reveals a significant increase in arrests, detentions, and traffic violations in Western Attica during the first nine months of 2024.
The surge comes as a result of an intensified anti-crime initiative launched by ELAS in January, focusing on areas with higher crime rates to enhance public safety.
The operation involved a 73.3% increase in police deployments compared to the same period last year, with officers from various departments, including order, security, traffic, and the Direct Action and Alien Affairs divisions of Attica, participating in 6,469 operations.
This heightened police presence led to a 70% rise in vehicle checks, totaling 101,443, and a 67.9% increase in individual checks, reaching 203,743. The number of detentions also saw a significant jump of 13.1%, resulting in 19,100 individuals being detained.
Furthermore, arrests for various offenses skyrocketed by 113.7%, with a total of 3,659 arrests made. Traffic violations also saw a dramatic increase of 74.6%, culminating in 38,794 violations recorded.
ELAS attributes this success to its new anti-crime strategy and its commitment to ensuring law and order throughout the country.
The increased police presence and proactive measures have not only led to a rise in arrests and traffic violations but also contributed to a stronger sense of security among citizens in Western Attica.
ELAS has vowed to continue these efforts to combat crime and maintain public safety nationwide.
