Greece is seeing a surge in COVID-19 cases, with an increase in hospitalizations, deaths, and a slight rise in the positivity rate of tested samples.
Vulnerable groups, including the elderly and those with underlying health conditions, are particularly at risk and urged to take strict preventive measures.
The BA.2.86 variant, though more prevalent, has not been linked to increased disease severity.
Hospital admissions have reached 923, a notable increase from previous weeks. Additionally, there were 16 new intubations and 38 deaths related to COVID-19.
Surveillance of urban wastewater also indicates increased SARS-CoV-2 circulation in six out of ten monitored areas.
In addition to the rise in COVID-19 cases, Greece has also seen an increase in West Nile virus infections.
Seventeen new domestic cases were reported last week, bringing the total to 33 cases and six deaths since the beginning of 2024.
