The long-anticipated relocation of Korydallos Prison is set to become a reality as the construction of the new Athens Judicial and Correctional Complex begins shortly.
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, speaking at the year’s final cabinet meeting, confirmed that the project is moving forward with plans to situate the facility outside the urban core.
The complex will be constructed in the Aspropyrgos area on a 103-acre site, in line with the Special Urban Plan developed by the Ministry of Environment and Energy.
It will feature two distinct zones: one for modern detention facilities and another for prisoner transport services.
Designed to meet the highest standards of security and environmental sustainability, the new correctional complex reflects a significant commitment to enhancing Greece’s justice system while prioritizing public safety and community well-being.
