The Minister of Citizen Protection Michalis Chrisochoidis, marked one year since assuming office with a social media post reviewing the actions taken during this period.
He stressed that a year ago, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis asked him to return to the Ministry of Citizen Protection "with the aim of strengthening the sense of security of citizens, fighting crime, and effectively managing the treatment of various forms of violence, especially fan violence, domestic violence, and violence against minors."
He said dozens of crime prevention and suppression teams had been reinforced in Attica and Thessaloniki, resulting in a tripling of arrests by these teams. He stressed that the traffic police had been reinforced with personnel, resulting in efficiency in detecting violations. "From 1,127,611 offences in 2023, we reached 1,441,327 in 2024, an increase of 27.8 percent," he said.
On social policing, he said interventions to address domestic violence had been strengthened. On the management of incidents of juvenile violence, he said the programs had led thousands of victims to trust the police and make complaints. "In 2024, arrests of domestic violence abusers more than doubled, setting a multi-year record. In 2024, in 2,163 juvenile delinquency cases, we made arrests for the offense of neglect of supervision, a 73% increase," he stressed.
Chrisochoidis also said that fan violence was radically addressed. He stressed that the priority was to fight organised crime. "We did not let terrorism threaten the daily life of citizens again, bringing the perpetrators to justice," he said, adding that there is no tolerance for any form of crime.
He also referred to the Hellenic Police of the future. "We are implementing radical changes with a reform bill, a modern and ambitious technological program; we are fundamentally changing the framework for the management and support of human resources, and we are reforming the training of police officers," he said.
