Just weeks after the passing of renowned Greek winemaker Yiannis Boutaris, his dream of establishing a dedicated Wine Library is becoming a reality.
The "Wine Library of Naoussa" (B.O.N.), a collaborative project between the Veria Public Central Library and the Boutaris Foundation, is set to open its doors this spring, honoring Boutaris's enduring legacy and passion for Greek wine.
The library will be housed in a historic building in Naoussa that once served as the Boutaris family's first winery. This symbolic location, steeped in winemaking tradition, will become a hub for preserving and promoting the rich history and cultural heritage of Greek wine.
The B.O.N. will offer a comprehensive collection of resources, both physical and digital, covering all aspects of winemaking, from ancient traditions to modern innovations.
It will also address contemporary challenges facing the industry, such as sustainability and climate change, reflecting Boutaris's forward-thinking approach.
"This initiative is a testament to Yiannis Boutaris's vision and determination to create a lasting legacy for Greek wine," said a spokesperson for the Boutaris Foundation. "It will serve as a valuable resource for researchers, students, and anyone passionate about wine."
The library will feature a public reading room on the ground floor, inviting visitors to explore the world of wine through books, documents, and multimedia materials.
The first floor will house personal and corporate collections from the Boutaris Foundation, offering a unique glimpse into the history of one of Greece's most prominent winemaking families.
The Wine Library of Naoussa is expected to become a leading institution for wine education and research in Greece. It stands as a fitting tribute to Yiannis Boutaris, a visionary leader who dedicated his life to elevating Greek wine and its cultural significance on the world stage.
