The Hellenic Coast Guard confirmed that the body of a man has been recovered 21 nautical miles south of the island, while 97 people were successfully brought to safety.
The rescue operation was launched after a vessel carrying migrants sank in the open sea.
The Coast Guard deployed multiple vessels, including lifeboats, to the scene to assist the survivors and search for any missing persons.
A Navy helicopter was also dispatched to support the efforts.
The body of the deceased individual is being transported to the port of Kaloi Limenes for further identification.
