Athens residents and visitors will be without taxis today due to a 24-hour strike by taxi drivers.
The strike, which began at 6 a.m. on Thursday and will continue until 6 a.m. on Friday, is in response to a proposed amendment by the Ministry of Tourism that the taxi drivers' union (SATA) believes could harm their industry.
SATA argues that the amendment would favour private vehicles for transport services, undermining regulatory oversight of drivers and passengers.
The union has called for the government to withdraw the amendment, which is scheduled for a vote today. Taxi services are expected to resume on Friday morning after the strike concludes.
