Despite closing the week with losses, ending a four-week winning streak, the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE) demonstrated resilience in July, outperforming many international markets amidst recession concerns.
With a 5.26 percent increase for the month, the General Index secured the third-best performance globally.
While dividend cuts totaling approximately 4 billion euros impacted the General Price Index, the ASE still managed significant gains. This performance is notable when compared to other global indices like the Dow Jones (3.84 percent), the FTSE-100 (3.04 percent), and the German Dax-30 (1.90 percent). Moreover, the ASE outperformed the Nasdaq (-2.38 percent) and the French Cac-40 (-0.09 percent), which both experienced declines in July.
The ASE's strong showing extended to year-to-date performance, with the General Price Index gaining 14.31 percent since January, securing the 10th position globally.
Despite weekly declines, the FTSE/ASE 25 large-cap index and the banking index have recorded substantial gains since the beginning of 2024, rising by 11.7 percent and 18.18 percent respectively.
However, the FTSE MID mid-cap index has experienced a slight decrease of 0.29 percent year-to-date.
Although the total market capitalization decreased by 2.096 billion euros this week, it has increased by 12 billion euros since the start of the year, reaching 99.335 billion euros. The total value of transactions for this week's sessions amounted to 524.553 million euros, with an average daily transaction value of 104.911 million euros.
The figures underscore the ASE's resilience and strong performance in the global market, despite recent losses and international economic pressures. The exchange's ability to weather global fluctuations and maintain significant gains positions it favorably for future growth.
