Say goodbye to paper tickets and hello to contactless payments on Athens public transport. Starting Wednesday, January 15th, passengers will be able to pay for their journeys with a simple tap of their bank card, mobile phone, or smartwatch.
The Athens Urban Transport Organization (OASA) is rolling out the new "tap2ride" system, which will revolutionize how people travel on the city's metro, trolley, tram, and bus services.
The system will be officially launched at an event at Syntagma Metro Station next week.
Using "tap2ride" is easy. Passengers simply tap their contactless bank card or a device with a digital wallet on designated readers when entering the transport system.
The fare will be automatically deducted from their account.
The system is designed to be user-friendly and efficient. It calculates the total trips taken throughout the day and charges the customer the lowest possible fare, eliminating the need for the existing ATH.ENA Ticket and ATH.ENA Card.
This modernization effort brings Athens public transport in line with global trends and offers greater convenience for passengers.
The "tap2ride" system is expected to streamline travel, reduce ticket queues, and improve the overall passenger experience.
