Athens is cracking down on illegally parked motorcycles and scooters that have been cluttering sidewalks and public spaces, making it difficult and dangerous for people to navigate the city center.
This week, municipal police towed away 19 illegally parked motorbikes as part of an ongoing operation launched last month.
This follows similar raids carried out in October and earlier this month, resulting in a total of 76 motorcycles and scooters being removed from public spaces and 74 parking tickets issued.
The crackdown comes in response to growing complaints about the increasing number of motorcycles, scooters, and even e-bikes and e-scooters, parked illegally on sidewalks, in front of shops, and in pedestrian areas. This has made it a nightmare for pedestrians to walk safely around the city center.
The municipal authority has pledged to continue these operations weekly to improve safety and accessibility for everyone.
This is welcome news for residents and visitors who want to enjoy the city's historic center without having to dodge illegally parked vehicles.
