A brazen armed robbery occurred in Lavrio on Thursday afternoon, leaving authorities scrambling to apprehend the perpetrators. Four masked individuals targeted an armored truck parked outside a toy shop in the city center, making off with a staggering sum of over 1 million euros.
The heist unfolded around 3:30 p.m. when the suspects slashed the tires of the armored truck, forcing it to stop. As the guards returned to the vehicle to assess the damage, one of the assailants, armed with a gun, confronted the truck driver. Threatening the driver, the suspect demanded the cash being transported, which the driver reluctantly handed over.
According to initial reports, the suspects managed to escape the scene with the substantial haul, leaving the police to investigate the carefully planned crime.
Authorities are now examining surveillance footage from the toy shop and neighboring businesses to gather clues about the identities and whereabouts of the robbers.
The incident has raised concerns about the security of armored truck operations and the potential for insider information to be exploited by criminals. Investigators are exploring the possibility that the suspects may have had prior knowledge of the truck's route and schedule.
As the manhunt continues, local residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
