The Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC) has announced that NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo and race walker Antigoni Ntrismpioti will be Greece's flag bearers at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The decision came after a vote among four female athletes, with Ntrismpioti emerging as the winner over tennis player Maria Sakkari, synchronized swimmer Evangelia Platanioti, and water polo player Margarita Plevritou.
Antetokounmpo's selection was unanimous.
HOC President Spyros Capralos explained the decision to have two flag bearers, highlighting the IOC's guideline to promote gender equality. He congratulated both athletes and expressed confidence in their ability to represent Greece.
The HOC also unanimously nominated Spyros Capralos for re-election as President of the European Olympic Committees.
