Nikos Androulakis has emerged as the clear frontrunner in the first round of Pasok’s leadership elections, with a fierce contest unfolding for second place between Haris Doukas and Pavlos Geroulanos.
As of the latest count, with 98.71% of the votes tallied, Mr. Androulakis holds a solid lead, while Mr. Doukas maintains a narrow advantage over Mr. Geroulanos, with only 0.26% separating the two candidates.
The official results indicate that the race for the second round is likely to see Mr. Androulakis face off against Mr. Doukas.
However, Mr. Androulakis' support dipped below 30% for the first time throughout the night, highlighting a potential shift in voter sentiment. Mr. Geroulanos made significant gains, especially in the Attica region, where he outpaced Mr. Doukas, but he still trails by just 804 votes—a difference of only 0.4%.
Despite Mr. Geroulanos' surge, Mr. Doukas’ team remains optimistic that their candidate will secure a spot in the second round, as the gap between them has widened slightly in the remaining uncounted districts. Anna Diamantopoulou appears to have secured fourth place in the race.
With almost all votes counted, Androulakis leads with 29.85%, having received 88,258 votes. Doukas follows with 21.43% (63,345 votes), while Geroulanos is close behind with 21.15% (62,541 votes). Diamantopoulou holds 19.51% of the vote, tallying 57,689 votes. Further behind are Michalis Katrinis with 5.74% (16,988 votes) and Nadia Giannakopoulou with 2.31% (6,834 votes).
In her statement following the results, Ms. Diamantopoulou described the day as a significant milestone for Pasok. She expressed her gratitude to the citizens and volunteers who supported her campaign, emphasizing her commitment to staying involved in the party's future.
"This is an important new beginning for Pasok. I thank all those who participated and supported my candidacy. I am here, and I deeply believe that we will be united and work together for a stronger Pasok in the days ahead," she said.
Voting patterns in key regions revealed interesting dynamics.
In Attica, where approximately 30% of all voters in the election reside, Mr. Geroulanos took the lead with 27.33%, followed by Ms.Diamantopoulou with 25.18%. Mr. Androulakis placed third with 21.12%, while Doukas came in fourth with 18.81%.
In Thessaloniki, Mr. Androulakis maintained the lead, with 27.11% of the votes counted so far, followed closely by Mr. Diamantopoulou at 26.75%, and Mr. Geroulanos at 23.1%.Mr. Doukas trailed with 18.84% of the vote, while Mr. Katrinis and Mr. Giannakopoulou held 2.51% and 1.7%, respectively.
As the first round nears completion, all eyes are on the upcoming second round, where Androulakis and Doukas are expected to compete for the leadership of Pasok.
