Main opposition PASOK-Movement for Change leader Nikos Androulakis on Wednesday commented on the massive rallies held at the weekend to demand justice for the victims of the Tempi train crash, stressing that the government should not insult the intelligence of "hundreds of thousands of people that took to the streets on Sunday…who want truth, transparency and for those responsible for this tragedy, in which 57 people lost their lives in an unjust and inhuman way, to be brought to justice."
Androulakis made the statement during a meeting with the farmers of Kopaida in the city of Livadia. Talking about their problems, he said that, according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority, the farmers' income has dropped by 9.2 percent and according to Eurostat, [farm] production in Greece dropped by 16 percent".
"Everything we propose that is inconvenient for them, whether it concerns the debts of the cooperatives or the utilisation of the resources of the Recovery Fund or the mismanagement in the Greek Payment Authority of Common Agricultural Policy (C.A.P.) Aid Schemes, everything is baptised as populism by ruling New Democracy," he added.
Regarding the high cost of energy, Androulakis asked "why they didn't prioritise connection conditions for farmers, livestock breeders, manufacturers and cooperatives".
“You are well aware how important it is for a cooperative with refrigerators to have its own energy so that it does not pay too high a price. They took the energy space and gifted it to the domestic oligarchy," he said.
