Greece's Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) has significantly ramped up its tax audit efforts nationwide, conducting over 48,000 on-site inspections and uncovering more than 20 million million in concealed income.
This initiative, part of the agency's broader commitment to safeguarding public interests and ensuring government revenues, involves deploying a specialized team of experienced auditors to high-risk areas.
Equipped with tablets running the ELEGXOS live system, auditors have access to comprehensive data on the entities being audited, streamlining their work and enhancing efficiency.
A dedicated operational unit at AADE further supports these inspections by analyzing data from the e-send system and POS transaction records to identify discrepancies and potential tax evasion.
The "Citizen Complaints" platform and the Appodixi application provide additional tools for combating tax evasion. So far, these efforts have led to fines exceeding €1.34 million and penalties in 628 cases, including the suspension of operations for 490 businesses and financial sanctions for 138 others.
Vigilante Justice in Response to Illegal Parking
Frustration over illegal parking in Greece has reached a boiling point, with some residents resorting to extreme measures to express their discontent.
While stickers and raised windshield wipers have become common tactics to shame those who disregard parking rules, some have escalated to using spray paint to vandalize vehicles.
Messages such as "I'm delulu and park wherever I want" scrawled across car windows serve as a stark reminder of the growing tension between those who park illegally and those affected by their actions.
However, while the paint may seem like a harmless form of protest, it often requires specialized cleaning agents and considerable effort to remove, effectively damaging the vehicle.
