The Hellenic Post (ELTA) has denied reports of problems with the mail-in voting process, billing recent allegations as “unprecedented” and “indecent” attacks.
The mail-in voting operation concerns approximately 200,000 citizens who expressed interest, with ELTA responsible for distributing electoral material to 100,000 of them.
To date, 96.5 percent of the material has been delivered to voters both within and outside the country’s borders.
For the majority of recipients, at least two delivery attempts were made to the declared address and up to six reminder messages were sent, ELTA said. The process included evening deliveries and extended store hours.
For the remaining 3.5 percent that has not been delivered, the electoral material remains available at stores, it added.
Voters have responded early in the process, resulting in 85 percent of the collections that needed to be processed by ELTA, completed by last week, the postal service said. The process is ongoing.
The mail-in voting process is not binding and voters have the option to cast their ballots in person on election day or not vote at all.
In a statement, ELTA said it could not comprehend why it was being attacked for its service, billing the accusations “indecent.”
