Greece made history by participating in the G7 Cultural Ministers’ Summit, a prestigious gathering of the world's leading economic powers.
The invitation, a testament to Greece's profound influence on global culture, highlighted the country's central role in shaping civilization and its ongoing contributions to cultural heritage.
During a special session on "The Role of Culture in Sustainable Development in Africa and the World," Italy's Minister of Culture, Alessandro Giuli, praised Greece as "the elder sibling of our culture, from which Western civilization began." Greek Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni expressed gratitude for the invitation, calling it "an honor for our country."
Ms. Mendoni emphasized the powerful role culture can play in sustainable development, linking it to economic growth and environmental sustainability.
She highlighted the need for resilient cultural policies to safeguard heritage from the effects of environmental degradation and human intervention.
Throughout the summit, Mendoni held key bilateral meetings with her counterparts from Italy, the United States, Canada, and the African Union, discussing further cooperation on exhibitions, antiquities trafficking, museum collaboration, and preserving Africa's cultural heritage.
The summit concluded with the signing of the Naples Declaration, reaffirming the collective commitment to protecting cultural heritage and emphasizing the crucial role of culture in global sustainable development.
